If there’s one thing you can count on in Greece, it’s the hospitality. Athens is a mix of heady and wild, a wee bit messy but the people are the warmest you’ll ever meet. In this mix, you want a lovely little hideout in the heart of the city but also some peace and quiet to go with it. We spent two nights at the immaculate Boutique Athens and were taken care of the way you’d look after someone you’ve invited into your own home.
Location in the heart of Athens
There are fully furnished luxury service apartments for various group sizes. We stayed in a one-bedroom apartment with a spectacular roof top garden with views of the Acropolis. Located in the bohemian Psirri district in a quiet side street, we can easily walk within a minute or two to the lively bars, cafes and restaurants. Tucked away, its location also provides that elusive quietness that is rare to find in Athens!
It’s located only a 5 minutes walk to Monastiraki metro and Thissio metro. Also, about 400 m away, you’ll reach Agora, one of the largest outdoor markets in Europe. The great thing about being in Psirri is that you can go for a walkabout to the Athens attractions in the morning, return easily, take a little siesta and head out to the bars and restaurants within walking distance. No need to figure out transport in the middle of the night, everything is right at your doorstep. In a hectic city, this is a remarkably laid-back experience!
The Apartment – Quirky Art in an immaculate space
There’s a little balcony overlooking the street and a roof top garden – these are my favourite features. Along with quirky art that adorns the bedroom and living room with high ceilings, it’s an inviting place to stay. The kitchen is fully equipped, the marble bathroom is large and every detail has been taken care of.
It’s not surprising that there is great attention to detail at work here, after all, the team has a collective 50 years of experience in hospitality. This is not a cold hotel stay, there is expert local guidance at hand and we greatly benefited from their advice about day trips from Athens and local recommendations. These are experiences that stay with you – all the places you explore that only a local will know.
Our two nights at Boutique Athens was delightful and we’d recommend this stay to anyone visiting Greece. While many choose to bypass Athens and head straight for the islands, we’d say you’re missing out on all the charms of this ancient city. You have to experience the warmth and hospitality here and how it helps you fit right in. Boutique Athens is like a home away from home – try it and we doubt you’ll ever stay in a boring hotel again!
