Cycle along the American River Parkway
One of the best ways to discover the beauty of Sacramento and its surroundings is by bike. Rent one and cruise along 32 miles of paved bike trail along the scenic American River Parkway. The trail can be entered at several different points and begins at Discovery Park in Old Sacramento and ends at Beals Point in Folsom where additional biking trails and water activities can be found.

What better excuse to enjoy the outdoors than with a chilled beer at the new Urban Roots Brewing in Downtown Sacramento? Having opened its doors on 19th May, travel lovers can enjoy a variety of 15 locally brewed beers, whilst soaking up the sunshine in their neighbouring beer garden.
Explore Sacramento’s Murals
Sacramento is home to more than 450 murals. The popular Wide Open Walls festival celebrates the relevancy and diversity of street art, by transforming walls and neighbourhoods in the city, adding a new permanent mural each year. Travel lovers can walk through the city’s diverse neighbourhoods including downtown and midtown where most of the murals can be found.
Taste the local liquids at the Old Sugar Mill
Located 15 minutes from downtown Sacramento, the Old Sugar Mill is surrounded by vineyards and is home to 15 unique tasting rooms offering varietals from the region. Complete with picnic grounds to bring your own food, wine lovers can choose their preferred bottle from the selection of the best local wines in the tasting rooms and enjoy it outside in the California sun.
Wander around Capitol Park
As a major transportation hub during the California Gold Rush, Sacramento became the state capital, housing the magnificent State Capitol building since 1874. Travel lovers can explore the 40-acres of surrounding gardens, including the sweetly scented International World Peace Rose Garden, home to 650 roses in over 140 variations. Whilst there, a trip inside the Capitol building can’t be missed, to sneak a peek at the making of California law in the public galleries and to see an official portrait of former California Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger.
Try white water rafting
Take a day trip from Sacramento to the American River for a white-water rafting adventure, at one of the most popular rafting destinations in the US. Whitewater Adventures offer a 1-day rafting excursion from $79 – the Upper Cache Creek – a Class III white water run through a volcanic canyon. The tour travels eight miles through wilderness, towering canyons and meadows, and is available for a range of abilities.
