President Obama has delighted ecophiles everywhere while on a trip to his home state of Hawaii.
Instead of relaxing on the beach, the President and First Lady were seen taking on one of the most challenging hikes on Oahu at the Koko Head Crater Stairs.
Koko Head, an ancient tuff cone measuring 642 ft in height, is one of the most popular spots on Oahu for hikers. The 1,048-step trail, built originally as railway tracks over 60 years ago to get supplies to the military bunkers at the top, now works as steps to the summit. The trail goes up to the crater’s ridge and boasts stunning views of Haunama bay.
The stairs are steep. Hikers are advised to take plenty of water, wear good shoes, sunscreen and start early in the morning.
The President shook hands with many excited fellow hikers who spotted his entourage on the trail. Some of whom snapped quick selfies with the POTUS and posted them on social media.
Here are some of the photos from his hike.
