Krka National Park is a gorgeous stretch of landscape that extends along the 73km River Krka and a place which draws the attention of thousands of Croatia travel enthusiasts each year. The star of this national park is, of course, its stunning waterfalls – and yes, you can swim in them! The Skradinski Buk waterfalls are a collection of 17 waterfalls (ranging in height by over 45 metres).

You’ll be surrounded by mountain ranges, grassy hillsides, and a beautiful, crystalline blue of the waters cascading down rugged cliffs. This Croatia travel site should not be rushed through when you travel to Croatia.

On your Krka National Park adventure, apart from its extraordinary waterfalls, you might get lucky and see the park’s wide variety of flora and fauna. With over 800 species of plants, you’ll have so many picture-postcard opportunities along the way. Krka National Park also has over 200 bird species, 18 different species of bats, and amphibians and reptiles that live in and around the flowing waters of the Krka River. So grab a bathing suit and cool off in the beautiful waters of its falls!

Wander in the Wild

As the sun hits the tops of trees, falling down the treeline onto the edges of crystal waters below, the waterfalls of Krka National Park are not to be missed. Once you’re done swimming in magical waters, feeling like you’re in the middle of a fairytale, you can travel to the tiny island of Visovac in the Krka River. The island holds an ancient monastery, built in 1445, a sacred place where you can see old artifacts and a vast library.

Another popular Croatia travel site in this beautiful national park is Roski Slap, a series of 12 waterfalls in a total space of 450 meters. The best way to start your trip around the park is by boat. Not only will you have the luxury to experience the national park relaxed and at ease, but you’ll witness the beauty of its landscapes up close and personal. Taking the boat adds a lovely nuance to your Croatia travel experience, as you sail down rushing tides into stunning views ahead.

Getting to Krka National Park

So, how exactly do you get to Krka National Park? If you’re planning on making the park your first Croatia travel stop, then the nearest airport is Split Airport. From there, your best bet is to go to Split Bus Station. During high season in the summer months, there will be direct buses to Skradin (one of the entrances to Krka National Park), a ride that will take around an hour and a half. If you’re not traveling here in the summer, however, it’s recommended that you travel to Sibenik first, then to Skradin.
