The key to any great romantic getaway travel is a great romantic destination. There are so many gorgeous places to kiss in the rain or under the glorious sun in the US but we found the ten absolute most charming destinations to travel to. Walk through historic streets or along beaches, sleep at a charming B&B or under the stars, go whale watching or gator watching, eat room service all day or go on the ultimate beer crawl. Whatever your idea of amour is, we’ve got a place that will give you the perfect vacation!
Monterey, California
When you travel to Monterey, check out the Monterey Bay aquarium, hang out by the beach, or take a 17-mile scenic drive down Pebble Beach. Monterey offers a wide array of activities including museums about Salvador Dali and John Steinbeck, whale watching and kayaking, and plenty of wine tours and vineyards. And if wine tasting isn’t exciting enough for you and your partner, there’s always the Vinyard ATV Adventure to get the blood pumping!
Twin Farms, Barnard, Vermont
For those who are looking for a more luxurious and private getaway, Twin Farms is really the place to travel to. Think the Dragonfly from Gilmore Girls with less drama. With four different types of accommodation, one which includes a private hot tub and all that include fireplaces, you are sure to have a cozy snuggle somewhere in this exclusive 300-acre property. And, even though there is a full list of exciting activities to participate in when you travel here, you won’t see a child anywhere as kids are not allowed under the age of 16.
Westport, Massachusetts
If you are trying to find the perfect Cape Cod vacation spot but hate lines, traffic, and people in general, try looking just west of your dream in Westport. Travel to this tiny fishing town for all the history, gorgeous beaches, nature hikes, and wine tastings with none of the crowd. Go kayaking down the river, check out the museum or the golf course, go wine tasting or eat your weight in seafood at The Bayside. There is also a significant artist population in Westport so an afternoon at an art gallery or studio is travel time well spent.
Portland, Maine
Another beachfront old town that is perfect for romance travel is Portland, Maine. Summer boasts cobblestone streets, museums, and plenty of fairs and festivals. There’s a lighthouse, spas, and plenty of wildlife to see. Winter is a whole other story as the entire town transforms into your ultimate ski village fantasy. This location is great for any history buffs out there looking to learn a little on a boat tour or at one of Portland’s many historic sites.
The Palm Beaches, Florida
Become a diving duo and explore the marvelous under the sea at Palm Beaches, Fl. This perfect beach vacation includes a nature reserve, a board walk, snorkeling, and a safari adventure! There’s plenty of beach activities to do during the day to tire you out and when the sun goes down there’s nothing like a moonlight walk on the beach to add the romance. With 47 miles of sandy beaches and tons of exciting activities this glamorous destination takes beach travel to a whole new level.
Steamboat Springs, Colorado
With a scenic water fall that stretches 280 feet high, hot springs, and a romantic gondola ride, there’s a reason that this travel destination is called Steamboat Springs. Take a hot air balloon ride or hang out at the Spring’s Music Festival and listen to a variety of genres. If you want to see the waterfall or see the overlook you’ll have to take a quarter mile hike so make sure your date loves nature as much as you!
Finger Lakes, New York
The Finger Lakes region, with 11 finger shaped lakes that stretch across central New York, is home to world-class wine, fantastic state parks – complete with refreshing waterfalls and gorgeous gorges – and cozy inns, making it an ideal destination for romantic getaways. Visit the area’s wineries for tastings of some of the country’s best wines, hike the beautiful Watkins Glen State Park and enjoy the company of your loved one in New York State on your next couple’s vacation. Sounds like a dreamy travel plan? We think so!
Amelia Island, Florida
For the island hoppers looking for truly secluded beach travel, Amelia Island is the perfect spot. With everything from golf courses and spas to nature reserves and campsites, this idyllic beachy getaway will certainly be able to bring the romance. Accommodation is also diverse on the island but I recommend staying at one of the many bed and breakfasts in a historic Florida style mansion. Dreamy green travel at its most sublime.
Sag Harbor, New York
A popular branch of the Hamptons and a historical mecca, this old whaling village has turned into a perfect charming vacation destination. Walk down cobblestone streets to the farmers market or wander around a museum. Whatever your pleasure, this beachfront stop is known for its romantic hotels so don’t miss out! There are some pretty amazing places to eat in town as well if you get tired of the room service when you travel here.
Annapolis, Maryland
The capital of Maryland and a hotbed for historical activity, Annapolis is sure to bring the patriot out of you and your date. There are plenty of tours of the historic town with people dressed in colonial garb or you could visit the Naval Academy when you travel here. Accommodations include bed and breakfasts, an 18th century historic inn, and an opportunity to sleep aboard a schooner!
Bend, Oregon
Winter birds in love will fawn over this ski town for more reasons than one. Not just a perfect place to ski and snowboard, Bend is doing a lot for green business, has plenty of pet friendly lodging, and is the home of the Bend Ale Trail Beer Tour. Experience the Ale Trail by towncar, cushy bus, or by foot but get ready for a boozy night out when you travel to Bend.
