Imagine a ‘devil’s bridge’ in Germany that creates a perfect circle with its reflection in the water. This optical illusion is a spectacular sight that can be found in Kromlau – add it to your Germany travel list! Kromlau is on the eastern side of Germany, close to Poland. Rakotzbrücke can be found in the Rhododendron Park.

So where does the term ‘devil’s bridge’ come from? Europe has several of these – it is believed that gravity-defying bridges must have been the work of the devil!

There is a tale that the bridge builders conspire with the Devil when constructing their masterpieces. The Devil tells them that the first person to cross over the bridge will have to give his or her soul to the Devil. There are many of these types of bridges found around the world, but the Rakotzbrücke is truly special.

Rakotzbrücke was built in 1860 when the leader of the town asked for a bridge to be built. It is a mixture of fieldstones and basalt, and is one of the coolest bridges in the world. Popular with photography and travel lovers, this one will be an Insta-hit!

Photographers love visiting this park, due to the gorgeous reflection that the Rakotzbrücke makes in the water. While walking over the bridge is prohibited to preserve it – the bridge and its surroundings, this is an amazing travel destination you can’t miss.

Travel here in the summer or autumn for a spectacular photo-op! The Rakotzbrücke is in the largest park in Saxony, 120km from Dresden. A great way to spend time in nature, Germany’s surprises never cease! A fairytale travel destination indeed.
