Los Angeles is an amazing city to visit. The second largest city in the country, LA really does have something for everyone. Whether you’re thinking of staying in a hotel or looking for a private villa for rent in LA you can be assured of a great time when you travel to Los Angeles.

Some people love Los Angeles, others find it takes a while to get used to the sprawling metropolis. However, you will find yourself falling in love with this wonderful place thanks to its unique population, its range of opportunities and it’s glorious weather. This destination guide will help you make your way around the city and show you where you can make a few savings.

Eating Out in Los Angeles

Los Angeles serves up almost any kind of dish on earth. It doesn’t matter where you come from or what type of food you would like to sample, LA has it all. If you want to eat out and not be charged an excessive amount you should stay away from Beverley Hills.

You can typically enjoy a meal in a restaurant for about $20 per person and still feel satisfied. If you prefer to grab something from one of the many fast food joints you’ll pay up to $10. However, if you do want to enjoy a meal in a rather upmarket restaurant in LA the sky really is the limit when it comes to prices.

If you’re the type of person who would rather cook your meals from scratch there’s plenty on offer here too. Why not visit one of the many farmers’ markets? You will find there’s quite a few in the area and they’re usually full to the brim of fresh fruits and vegetables.

If you plan to prepare all of your meals while you’re in Los Angeles you can expect to pay about $70 per week for groceries.

Getting Around

Traffic in this part of the world is often very busy. You might wish to wait until after the rush hour to get anywhere, however, it always seems to be rush hour in LA. You might be tempted to jump on public transportation to make your journeys easier but you won’t be spoiled for choice. There is public transportation around but it tends to be few and far between.

If you do manage to find the bus system, it can take you almost anywhere within the middle of LA. However, you will be stuck in traffic much of the time. Traveling on the bus isn’t expensive at all and you can travel one way for typically less than $2. Just make sure you have a copy of the time table with you so you know when the bus leaves your chosen destination.

Want to get out of the middle of LA? You will need a car. If you have not rented a car then you might want to opt for an Uber. Be warned, getting an Uber everywhere can be expensive but you don’t have to use them all the time. You could opt for a taxi which tends to be a little cheaper.

There are ride-sharing schemes in LA such as Bird or Lime that let you rent a scooter. Costing less than $2 to rent and around 20 cents for every minute, it’s a good and cheap way to travel a short distance around this sprawling city.

Car pooling schemes exist in the city and allow you and a few others to share a car. You just need to make sure you’re headed to the same place but you can split the taxi fare or cost of the hire car. This is a great way for you to get around LA in a more eco-friendly way and potentially make new friends.

Sightseeing

If you plan to see a lot while you’re in the city then you should buy a “GO Los Angeles” card. This card will give you discounted visits to a range of attractions, tours, and museums. You’ll have around 40 different venues to choose from so you shouldn’t be stuck for anything to do.

Here are a few tips you might appreciate when sightseeing:

  • Avoid Beverley Hills and Hollywood. These areas are some of the most expensive in the area. However, if you would like to spot a few celebrities these locations are where you should head to.
  • Enjoy a walking tour. Walking tours that are typically free allow you to learn even more about Los Angeles and its history. What’s more, is that they will take you to some of those must-see destinations that are very popular among tourists.
