Flax Seed Hair Gel

Flax seed hair gel is not only easy to make, it’s great for your hair. Full of nutrients as well as providing a great hold, this DIY hair product won’t dry your hair out or cause unwanted stiffness. If you’re looking to tame a few fly aways or define curls, flax seed gel is the perfect solution.

You will need:

  • 1/4 to 1/2 cup Whole flax seeds, depending on desired thickness
  • 2 cups of distilled water
  • strainer, cheesecloth, or stocking
  • your favorite essential oils

Bring the water and flax seeds to a boil. Stir regularly so the seeds don’t stick to the bottom or sides of the pan.

  1. Boil until the mixture thickens slightly, when a white froth begins to form. Turn off the heat.
  2. Let the mixture cool.
  3. Stir in your favorite essentials oils. I suggest hair enriching blends such as ylang ylang, jojoba, and lavender. This step is optional.
  4. Strain the flax seeds from the gel using a cheesecloth, a stocking, or any other method you have available.

And that’s it! In 5 simple steps you’ve got yourself an easy, hair enriching product.

Mayonnaise hair mask for protein deficient tresses

If your hair has been limp or feels gummy, it’s time for a protein treatment. This will return much needed health into starving hair. If you aren’t sure if your hair is protein deficient, try the strand test. Wet a strand of your hair and stretch it – if it continues to stretch without returning to it’s original shape and then breaks, you’re in need of some protein. Try the following hair mask!

You will need:

  • Mayonnaise
  • Your favorite conditioner
  • An egg (optional, use if your hair really needs more protein)

  1. Mix your favorite conditioner with a large scoop of mayonnaise – up to 1/4 cup.
  2. Stir in an egg if you feel your hair could utilize extra protein.
  3. Apply to towel dried, freshly washed hair.
  4. Allow to sit under a shower cap for 20 to 30 minutes.
  5. Rinse with cool water.

And you’re done! Your hair should feel renewed and ready for styling.
